Use this tutorial to add a full calendar to a page. If you’d like to add a limited list of individual events, follow the tutorial for adding events to a page.
Adding a calendar to a new page
Create the page. If you plan to Tailor it, add the calendar first while still in the default WordPress editor.
Then, when you go to Tailor the page, the calendar will appear within a Content element, and you can add more elements to the page as you normally would.
Adding a calendar to an existing page
Go to the page where you want to insert the calendar. If it hasn’t been Tailored, proceed to the next step.
If a page has been Tailored, adding a calendar in the default WordPress editor will cause those edits to be overwritten the next time you Tailor the page.
To avoid this problem, create a new page, save it as a draft, and proceed to the next step. There will be special instructions at the end for Tailored pages.
Inserting the calendar
In the visual editor toolbar, click on the calendar button and select Insert Calendar from the dropdown menu.
After clicking Insert Calendar, a pop-up menu will appear with options to customize your calendar.
Decide which events to show
In the Insert Calendar popup menu, you can decide whether your calendar will show events from all categories or only some.
By default, events from all categories will populate the calendar you’re inserting. If you want all of your events to populate the calendar, don’t check any boxes.
To limit the calendar’s events to one or more categories, check the corresponding boxes next to Show only these categories.
Select a default view
By default, the calendar will show events by month; or you can select another view from the dropdown: week, day or agenda (list).
The default view controls the way calendar will look when a visitor first sees it.
However, there are controls at the top of the calendar that allow site visitors to change the view according to their preference, i.e. from month to week, day or agenda.
Adjust additional formats
In addition to the default view, there are other date and time-related displays you can adjust. Most are a matter of preference, except for date format.
- Day of the week
- Month name
- Day format
- Date format – By default, this is set to DD/MM; choose a U.S. format from the dropdown menu to prevent confusion
Click the blue OK button.
